How to enable the Administrator Account, the Guest Account or both.

When the Windows® 10 operating system is installed, it will automatically make a User account (this account will have the name you give it during the setup process). By default, the User account that is created has administrator rights and is the main account for the computer. The operating system will also automatically create two additional accounts which, by default, are both kept inactive. One is the Guest account and the other is the Administrator account.

Follow these steps to enable the Administrator account, the Guest account or both.

Right-click the Start button, or press the Windows Logo + X key combination on the keyboard and, from the list, click to select Command Prompt (Admin) .

NOTE : If prompted for an administrator password or a User Account Control prompt is displayed, click Yes .

NOTE : You will see both the Administrator and Guest accounts listed.

To activate the Administrator account, type the command net user administrator /active:yes and then press the Enter key.

IMPORTANT: By default, the Administrator account is not password-protected. If you are planning to sign in to the computer using the Administrator account, it is recommended that you password protect the account .

Let Standard Users Run Programs as Admin

To let standard users run a program with administrator rights, we are using the built-in Runas command. To start, you need to know two things before you can do anything. The first is the computer name, and the second is the username of your administrator account.

If you don’t know the computer name, press Win + X , then select the “System” option.

The above action will open the System window. Here you will find your computer name listed.

You can find your administrator username in the User Accounts window. Go to “Start -> Settings -> Accounts -> Your Info.”

Once you have the details, you can create the shortcut. To do that, right-click on your desktop and select the “New” option, then “Create Shortcut.”

The above action will open the “Create Shortcut” window. Click on the “Browse” button and select the application you want users to run with admin rights.

In my case, I’m selecting a simple application called Search Everything. This app indexes your entire system to find files faster and requires admin rights to work. You can also set up Enhanced Search to search Windows 10.

After selecting the application, this is how the “Create Shortcut” window looks.

Enter the following command at the beginning of the file path. Don’t forget to replace ComputerName and Username with the actual details.

The completed command looks something like this.

Once you are done, click on the “Next” button to continue.

Enter the name of the shortcut and click on the “Finish” button.

That’s it. You’ve created a custom shortcut for your program. By default, the shortcut you’ve created will not have a proper icon.

However, you can change the icon by clicking on the “Change Icon” button from the Properties window. You can access the Properties window by right-clicking on the shortcut, then selecting the option “Properties.”

Once you are done changing the icon, double-click on it. The first time, you need to enter the administrator password. Enter it and press the Enter button.

After the first time, whenever a user launches the application using the shortcut you just created, it will be launched with admin rights. The savecred option in the above command will save the admin password so that users can run the application as an admin without actually entering the password.

In fact, if you open the Windows Credentials Manager and navigate to “Windows Credentials,” you will see the saved password.

If you ever want to restrict the user from running the target app as an administrator, simply delete the shortcut or remove the saved credential from the Windows Credential Manager.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Disruption

How do I change the admin username and/or password on my SBG6580?

When attempting to access the SBG6580 configuration menu, the gateway prompts for a username and password. By default, the username is admin, and the password is motorola. However, the gateway's admin account username and password can be changed.

NOTE: If the gateway cannot be accessed using the default credentials (mentioned above), and the username and password is unknown, then the gateway will only accessible by doing a factory reset. Keep in mind that a factory reset will erase any custom settings, and may cause the Internet to be inaccessible. For instructions on how to do a factory reset, please refer to Answer # 20815 - SBG6580: Factory Reset.

Password Considerations:

  • Passwords are case sensitive, and must be 1 to 8 characters long.
  • Passwords can not contain the following characters (#,$. @,*).
  • Passwords go into effect immediately. Restarting the gateway is not required for the password to take effect.
  • Assigning an administrator password does not affect communication to the Internet.

NOTE: Before changing the username and / or password, it is recommended to backup the configuration. To backup the configuration, please refer to Answer # 20837 - SBG6580: Configuration Backup and Restore.

Changing the Login Username and Password (Current Versions)

WARNING: It is recommended to keep a record of the new username and password. If the username and / or password is unknown, then the configuration menu for the SBG6580 will be inaccessible.

NOTE: If it is desired to only change the username, skip steps 3-4. If it is desired to only change the password, skip steps 1-2.

  1. In the drop-down menu, select Change Username . The Change Username menu will appear.
  2. In the Change Username menu:
    a. Enter Current Username - Enter the current login username.
    b. Enter Current Password - Enter the current login password.
    c. Enter New Username - Enter a new login username of choice.
    d. Re-Enter New Username - Re-Enter the new login username of choice.
    e. Click the Apply button. The new username now becomes the current login username.

Changing the Login Username and Password (Previous Versions)

2021-05-20 - pgAdmin 4 v5.3 Released

The pgAdmin Development Team are pleased to announce pgAdmin 4 version 5.3. This release of pgAdmin 4 includes 25 bug fixes and new features. For more details please see the release notes.

Notable changes in this release include:

Connect PostgreSQL servers using Kerberos authentication

This feature provides the user to connect to the database servers using Kerberos authentication. Make sure 'kerberos' must be set as AUTHENTICATION_SOURCES in the config file. Added ‘Kerberos authentication?’ switch control in the server dialog if it is set to True then the user can connect to the database server using Kerberos authentication.

This feature provides the user to set the auto width option of the columns by content size. Added ‘Resize by data?’ option in the preferences. If set to True then data columns will auto-size to the maximum width of the data in the column as loaded in the first batch. If False, the column will be sized to the widest of the data type or column name.

  • Fixed an issue where data is displayed in the wrong order when executing the query repeatedly.
  • Fixed an issue where the wrong SQL is showing for the child partition tables.
  • Fixed an issue where CSV download quotes the numeric columns.
  • Ensure that pgAdmin should not allow opening external files that are dragged into it.
  • Fixed an issue where schema diff does not create DROP DEFAULT statement for columns.
  • Fixed an issue where the filter 'Include/Exclude By Selection' not working for null values.
  • Added support for the creation of Nested Table and Varying Array Type for Advanced Server.
  • Fixed ModuleNotFoundError when running from outside of the root.
  • Fixed an issue where the current debug line is not visible in the 'Dark' theme.
  • Fixed an issue where duplicate columns are visible in the browser tree if dependent on multiple sequences.
  • Ensure that pgAdmin4 shut down completely on the Quit command.

You'll need to be logged in as an administrator for this to work.

Well that defeats the purpose, why would you use command prompt to do that when its simpler to do it in control panel?

You always need to be on an admin account to manage accounts like this. even when working through the gui. Also, this is useful for creating logon scripts.

No purposes defeated here at all.

There is a way to use cmd to create admin from a normal user. No hacks needed.

you can access command prompt as an administrator in login screen. :)

i am having two accounts one is administrator and Standard user i forgot administrator password and i followed the above steps by logging to standard user but still i am unable to change the admin password kindly please help ..

As Bryan says above, you will need administrator privileges which are not available to a standard user. Sorry.

use the sticky keys exploit on startup to open a sytem level cmd and reset the account password

Would this work for a work/school computer?

Depends on your privilege/access rights.

HOWEVER, Doing/Trying this will most likely (almost without a doubt) be a breach of your school/office rules & regs.

Don't get yourself kicked outa' school dude! So not worth it!

ok guys so i forgot my password to my computer and the open account isnt administrative how do i fix this?

Not going to go into registry stuff here (might write a short article for that) but try, Ophcrack. There are plenty of other password recovery tools available but this one has a good rep.

Last line is new instead of net.

there's a typo in the instructions you put when showing how to give administrator privileges, you put new instead of net.

There is another way to add an admin account to a Windows computer. With physical access to the box and a Linux live CD you can have Windows give you a command prompt at the next boot up.

At the login screen when you get command prompt it will be administrator level, you can then add change or delete any other account on the computer. How to Hack Windows 7 Admin Account Password with Windows Magnifier Hack.

excelent article help me with destroyed user account and as always the googling for resolving my problem has worked :)

Ok, so first things first, my english is bad so i apologise, I'm gonna show you how to fix error 5.So this is what i did in my school, I puted Backtrack Linux onto my USB flashdrive and inserted it into school computer, next I restarted the computer and opened BIOS where I've selected Linux OS. I replaced cmd file with sticky keys. Then I have restarted the computer and opened Windows OS. Then when the log-on screen came, I pressed shift 5 times and it opened cmd where I've had full administrators access and did the the whole procedure you just read about before coming to comment section. So when you do this you have full local admin privileges, you can easily get server admin, but about that later. Hope I've helped with error 5. Peace.

Helpful discussion , I learned a lot from the details ! Does someone know where my business might be able to obtain a fillable a form example to work with ?

Try this little trick with the above trick:
Worked for me.
Set localadmin with administrator rights again and boom I'm connecting machine back to the domain again :)

Here's a quick tip! If you have a windows 7 like i do, restart your computer, the it will take you to the log in screen. But don't sign in! Press the "Shift key" 5 times, the it will open the command thing. Sense your not logged on, it will allow you to create another account. Even if YOUR account is not an admin. (My English is bad sorry)

new localgroup administrators username /add

should be "net localgroup administrators username /add" with no quotes of course.

Also, you can do this without logging into the computer. Just need to swap the utilman.exe with cmd.exe and you can create or change passwords for any user on the PC. Do this at work all the time when Hiren's won't work (EFI only)
